About the Sweet Pea

The Sweet Pea is a plant native to the Mediterranean region. They are annual climbers, come in a wide spectrum of colours and grow for long periods of time. Not all Sweet Pea flower varieties are fragrant, but the ones that are, live up to their name sake.

Growing Sweet Pea

Choose a site in full sun with rich, well-drained soil. Soak seeds overnight, then plant about an inch deep and 3-4 inches apart. Water well after planting, then restrict water until seeds germinate. Fertilize every 2-4 weeks, or use a slow-release fertilizer. Sweet Peas are heavy feeders. The Sweet Pea plant benefits from dead heading, but leave a few flowers at the end of the season to seed next year.
