The Lily of the valley
(sweetness and humility)
About the Lily of the valley
In the Victorian classic, The language of Flowers, the Lily of the Valley is said to symbolise the return of happiness.
Named for it's native habitat ( the Latin word "convallis" means enclosed valley)
Though Lily of the valley bears dozens of blossoms, they only last for less than a week.
With bell-shaped flowers that infuse the air with fragrance throughout the day.
Growing Lily of the valley
Find a location where the soil drains well.
Plant roots where they will receive light to moderate shade
After planting, water generously, soaking the soil to settle it around the roots
When in bloom, feel free to cut the petite bell-shaped flowers for bouquets.
After blooming has finished for the season leave the foliage in place,
don't cut it off. The leaves will gather sunlight, create food through
photosynthesis and strengthen the plants for the future.
Your Lily of the valley will rest for a few months before beginning
the next growing cycle in Spring once again.
(Birthstone of May)
